The SlingLady recommends: Carriers for Travel
July 2nd, 2009In my last post, I talked about why you will want your baby carrier with you when travelling. The SlingLady often gets asked about the best carriers for travel. Sso with summer travel season upon us, here, then, are my recommendations for the best baby slings and child carriers for your next trip.
How to Choose a Travel Carrier for your Child
I recommend taking at least two carriers with you on any trip you take. Bring one for cuddling and soothing as well as easy of/off, and one workhorse for longer outings.
Don’t forget to take into account the weather at your destination and whether you will be involved in any special activities.
The SlingLady’s recommendations
For travel with an infant: Bring a pouch or a ring sling (for easy on/off) and a stretchy wrap (like the Moby Wrap baby wrap or Bali Baby Stretch baby wrap) or a Pikkolo baby carrier as your workhorse carrier.
For travel with a toddler: Bring a pouch or ring sling (for easy on/off and cuddling/soothing) and an ERGO carrier as your workhorse.
For the beach/pool: The Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Mesh Pouch baby sling is a great water carrier for either an infant or a toddler. If you have a child under 4 months, we also highly recommend the Wrapsody Water Wrap baby wrap.
For serious hiking: We recommend the ERGO baby carrier for serious hiking with a child 5 months and older (with good head control). For hiking with an infant, we recommend the Pikkolo carrier with a support belt for extra waist support.
For cold weather, rain & snow: The Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch baby sling is the warmest, cuddliest baby carrier we know. However, if you’re going to active in the snow, we recommend a Pikkolo (for an infant) and the ERGO carrier for an older baby or toddler. You may also want to consider a weather cover for the ERGO (it’s lined with fleece) or a warm carrier cover like the Catbird Baby fleece cover or the Peekaru babywearing vest.
